Social Book Club was created as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Research showed that people were eager to rekindle their love for books and connect with others who shared the same passion.

Where online book discussion forums are widely spread, many of the users we tested the concept on, felt that finding local book clubs in their area was difficult, and if they were able to locate any, it was rare that it touched upon the genres that they cared for.

Challenges.
Young people yearn for social settings where they can discuss and share. With a lack of physical thirds spaces, we set out to create a medium that should not replace but support the desire to find community within common interests.
1.
How might we create a product, that encourages community between avid readers.
2.
How might we find insights from other digital products, succeding in other fields of entertainment? (gaming, video, etc.)
3.
How might we tie the digital and physical space together, to encourage physical meetups?
Bonus.
How might we encourage good reading habits in a young digitally native audience?

Users reported that they were more likely to use an app, if it had a social aspect. One, because they wanted to read peer reviews of books, and two because they wanted it to be convenient and easy to communicate with people, and having to switch between apps created too much friction.

Social networks are engrained in our everyday life, so introducing this in the app was quickly deemed essential. We wanted users to be capable of writing within their own book clubs, but also sync with friends and family to potentially inspire the user further.

Another feature we looked into was audio rooms, where the users enter a digitally established room, to engage in online discussions. However, a key aspect that the users mentioned, was that using only audio, they would not be able to see people, which proved to be a problem to some users.
